SOPHISTICATED SIMPLICITY

This striking new residence by Mondo Exclusive Homes exemplifies the elegance of modern architecture, seamlessly blending contemporary design with thoughtful, lifestyle-driven functionality. Created as a forever home for clients approaching retirement, the brief was clear: deliver a stylish yet highly liveable sanctuary – one that would support comfort, practicality, and ease well into the future.

Located in the riverside suburb of Rivervale, just a stone’s throw from the Swan River, the home is ideally positioned to take advantage of its tranquil surroundings. Nature, city convenience, and a sense of serenity all come together here, forming the perfect setting for a home designed around meaningful, relaxed living.

From the outset, company director Ray Kershaw played an instrumental role, personally overseeing every aspect of the design and construction. With over two decades of hands-on industry experience, Ray brings a unique level of insight and care to each project – ensuring every decision reflects not only his team’s expertise but the client’s individual vision.

A key architectural feature of the home is its cleverly designed “upside-down” layout. By placing the main suite, ensuite, kitchen, dining, and living areas – along with a spacious balcony – on the first floor, the home captures both light and outlook, maximising its elevated position. This layout also provides highly accessible everyday living, supported by the inclusion of both a lift and a central staircase – future-proofing the home for years to come.

On the ground floor, comfort and flexibility take centre stage, with space thoughtfully arranged to welcome visiting family and friends. A luxurious guest suite with a private ensuite offers a peaceful retreat, while two additional bedrooms and a shared multi-purpose room make entertaining extended family effortless. A central lounge anchors the lower level, flowing out to a generous alfresco area and a fully appointed outdoor kitchen – ideal for easy-going weekend barbecues or quiet evenings under the stars.

Central to the client brief was a desire to maximise the elevated site and embrace the outdoors. The upper level was carefully designed to become the heart of the home, featuring expansive glazing, open-plan living, and seamless indoor-outdoor transitions. These elements create a calm yet dynamic space that is visually connected to the environment and perfect for entertaining.

Material selection played a major role in delivering a refined, cohesive aesthetic. A light-toned render gives the exterior a clean, modern edge, while darker accents – seen in the window frames, fencing and custom façade detailing – add depth and contrast. Natural stone cladding was introduced as a tactile counterpoint, adding texture and timeless sophistication.

Inside, the same design intent continues. Bespoke cabinetry enhances both style and storage, with a blend of white and black finishes warmed by natural oak tones. These elements strike the perfect balance between sleek modernity and inviting warmth. At the home’s centrepiece, the staircase becomes a standout architectural feature, framed by a fully welded aluminium screen that functions as both balustrade and bold design statement.
